Why Register with SAVY ?

What is Stockport Action for Voluntary Youth (SAVY)? Action for Voluntary Youth (SAVY)?

SAVY is an umbrella organisation that brings together a variety of voluntary youth groups in Stockport.

Voluntary youth provision in Stockport is provided through a mix of faith, uniformed and independent youth organisations. Nationally most boroughs, cities and counties have some sort of CVYS. Stockport CVYS (SAVY) is affiliated to the North West CVYS and the National Council for Voluntary Youth Service.

SAVY was formed in 1991. It is governed by an Executive Committee which is appointed annually by affiliated members at its Annual General Meeting.

What do we do?

  • Establish partnerships with Voluntary and Statutory bodies

  • Advocate on behalf of member organisations

  • Provide a forum for discussion and debate

  • Represent the views of the Voluntary youth sector at formal and informal consultation within SMBC

  • Promote the activities of its member organisations

  • Represent SAVY at a regional and national level

  • Promote public awareness of the issues that affect young people

  • Organise joint activities to bring groups of young people together

  • Identify and co-ordinate training relevant to voluntary youth work

SAVY  has adopted the following Youth work Principles:

  • To promote the personal and social development of young people

  • To enable young people to fulfil their potential as empowered individuals and members of groups and communities

  • To create opportunities to respond to young people’s needs

  • To provide support to young people through their transition to adulthood

  • To promote the safety of young people as a priority

  • Young people enter voluntarily into the relationship with the youth worker

  • The relationship is based on mutual respect and acceptance

  • Young people are challenged by the youth worker and the Organisation

Why register with SAVY?

For any group undertaking any form of youth work there are some very necessary benefits to registering with the Local Council for Voluntary Youth Service.

If you are not part of a larger national organisation some of our benefits become a must.
